We offer tours of Parks Ranch Cave, the longest gypsum cave on public land in the USA! The cave is owned and managed by the Carlsbad Office of the BLM: https://www.blm.gov/visit/parks-ranch-cave. Parks Ranch is open to the public to visit without a permit or guide. However, the cave can be difficult to navigate and requires specific gear to explore safely. With Type II adventures you will be guided by an expert caver who will provide you all the necessary equipment, educate you on cave geology, and keep you safe during your visit. Our tour route includes a short walk on the surface. The in cave portion is mostly walking with some crawling, stooping, and climbing. The cave can have ~6 inches of standing water in some sections so be prepared to get your feet wet! Tours a typically 3hours but we can tailor an experince to your needs!

Type II Adventures was founded by two cave scientists and adventurers, we want to share our love for dark, dirty, and amazing places with everyone. Type 2 Adventures refers to the Fun Scale, a concept developed by Dr. Rainer Newberry and popularized by Kelly Cordes. The scale breaks activities in to 3 types of "fun": Type 1 - activities that are objectively fun (i.e. eating ice cream), Type 2 - activities that can be uncomfortable or down right miserable when they are happening but are fun in retrospect, Type 3 - activities that are not fun in any way. We find that the most rewarding experiences and opportunities for growth fall into the Type 2 category. On a trip with us you may will experience new things, get muddy and tired, and make great memories in the process.
